DK 46 - "Old School"
The DK 46 is widely regarded as one of the most successful IRC cruiser-racer designs of the modern era, and Old School stands out as one of the finest examples afloat. Designed by Mark Mills, this proven 46-footer combines genuine regatta-winning performance with comfortable offshore cruising capability.
Set up for both high-level regatta competition and offshore racing, Old School recently achieved an impressive 3rd place in IRC 3 in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, reinforcing the DK 46's reputation as a serious offshore performer.
Old School has built an enviable record on the racecourse, consistently finishing on the podium at regattas and major events, often alongside her successful sister ships. For sailors seeking a yacht capable of taking them to the front of the fleet -- whether inshore regattas, coastal racing, or offshore classics -- while still offering the comfort and style expected of a true dual-purpose cruiser-racer, this yacht delivers in every respect.
Extensively upgraded and continually optimised, Old School is exceptionally well equipped with dedicated sail inventories for regatta, offshore, and club racing programs.
For grand prix regattas she carries a near-new inventory of North Sails 3Di working sails along with North Sails and Doyle Sails symmetrical spinnakers, delivering a highly competitive IRC rating of 1.179.
For offshore racing, Old School features an optimised sail configuration with a complete set of Evolution Sails jibs, Evolution/DK asymmetric and symmetric pole sails, plus a DK fractional Code Zero, achieving an IRC rating of 1.174. An additional club racing inventory ensures the premium regatta and offshore sails remain in excellent condition.
Why is the DK 46 so competitive? According to designer Mark Mills:
"The DK46 hull shape is geared to perform through a wide range of conditions, balancing light airs pace with the need for speed in a breeze and reaching. The central design theme is reducing resistance both through reduced wetted surface area and wave-making drag, separating out the stability requirements to be met by the large ballast package and deep fin. "
Combined with a modern, well-appointed interior, the result is an exceptional dual-purpose racer-cruiser with a remarkable history of major race and regatta success worldwide.
